Six labelled cultures of freshwater diatoms, to illustrate pennale and centrale morphology and unicellular & colonial organisation. Genera chosen are usually of large size and visually exceptional. Typical examples are Asterionella, Navicula, Fragilaria, Pinnularia, Tabellaria and Stephanodiscus.
