Chlorella vulgaris

Tiny, non-motile, spherical unicells with a single parietal chloroplast.Occurs free living and as a symbiont zoochlorellae in some protists,eg. Paramecium bursaria,and in invertebrates eg. Hydra viridissima. Useful alga for showing oxygen liberation during photosynthesis. Or for use in haemacytometers as substitute for blood corpuscles.

Culture Protocol

Prior to use keep culture/s near a north facing window (no sunlight) at ambient room temperature 5-25°C. Cultures usually remain viable for several weeks.

Culture in Bold's Basal Medium.
